WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased,  upgrade weapons  can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and an issue.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
